Admission Requirements


Depending on your applicant type, you may need to provide different documents and/or information with your application. You must also send all required documents by the deadline and be at least 16 years old by the first day of classes. Documents will be uploaded with the online application.

Applicants who hold a U.S. passport, green card, immigrant visa, certain non-immigrant visas, or special immigrant categories should not apply as international students. Please review our guidelines to check whether you should apply via one of our Resident Admission Offices.

 

General Applicant

You will apply as a general applicant if you are not a current F/M-1 visa student and have never attended Seattle Colleges.

 

1. International Student Admission Application

Complete your International Student Admission Application through our online portal. Apply now!

2. $50 Application Fee and Optional Express Mail Fee

The $50 application fee must be paid before an application can be processed. Applicants wanting their acceptance materials sent by FedEx Express Mail must also pay the express mail fee. For more details, review our handout.

3. Proof of Finances

Applicants must identify who will be financing their U.S. education and provide proof that sufficient funds are available for their studies. For complete details, including minimum amounts required for admission, please review our guide.

4. Copy of Passport Photo Page

Applicants must provide a copy of their passport's photo page. The entire photo page must be visible (no portion can be obstructed, including the bottom strip), and the image must be of good quality (no glare or reflections).

 

Additional Requirements

Underage Students

Students who will still be underage (16 or 17) by the start of classes must provide a copy of their high school transcripts or a copy of their high school diploma.

Also, underage students applying for admission to North Seattle College or South Seattle College must submit additional forms with their application: North | South.

English Proficiency for Direct Placement

Proof of English proficiency is not required for admission to Seattle Colleges. However, if you want to skip the English placement test, you can provide proof of English proficiency in advance. For more details, including information on which English proficiency scores are required to receive direct placement into college classes, please visit our dedicated webpage.

Applicants with Dependents (Spouse or Children)

To obtain an F-2 I-20 form for their dependents, applicants must:

- Complete the section on dependents in the International Student Admission Application

- Provide a copy of the dependent's passport, plus original and translated copies of the marriage certificate (for spouse) or birth certificate (for children)

- Provide proof that an additional US$3,000 is available per dependent (in addition to the funds required for the student)

Applicants Wanting a Priority Admission Certificate

A Priority Admission Certificate is a special letter that highlights an applicant's achievements and academic preparation. Priority Admission Certificates may be especially helpful for students applying for F-1 visas in countries where visa approval can be difficult.

To obtain a Priority Admission Certificate, applicants must submit additional documents with their admission application. For more details, please review our dedicated handout.

 

Transfer Applicant

If you are already in the U.S. studying on an F/M-1 visa, or if you have studied in the U.S. with an F/M-1 visa within the past 5 months, you are considered a transfer applicant.

 

1. International Student Admission Application

5. Copy of Current/Most Recent I-20 Form

Make sure to include all pages. Only required for applicants still in the United States.

6. Copy of F/M-1 Visa

Applicants must provide a copy of their F/M-1 visa. The scanned copy must be legible (no glare or reflections).

7. Transfer-In Status Verification Form

During the application process, ask your current or most recent school advisor to complete and submit a Transfer-In Status Verification Form (North | Central | South). Then, after you are admitted, ask your advisor to transfer your SEVIS record to Seattle Colleges before the first day of class. Once we receive both your Transfer-in Status Verification Form and SEVIS record, we will send you a transfer I-20 form.

Returning Applicant

If you attended Seattle Colleges for at least one quarter, and then either transferred to another institution or left Seattle Colleges for at least two quarters, you can apply as a returning student.

 

1. Returning Student Application

Complete the application form for the campus you would like to attend: North (Instructions) | Central | South.

2. Proof of Finances

Applicants must identify who will be financing their U.S. education and provide proof that sufficient funds are available for their studies. For complete details, including minimum amounts required for admission, please review our guide.

 

Due to privacy laws (FERPA), agents and institutional partners are not allowed to make requests on behalf of returning students. Returning students must contact the International Admissions Office directly.

Also, depending on their particular situation, returning Intensive English or College Bridge students may be allowed or required to take the English placement test again prior to registration. Specific guidance will be provided by the Admissions team once the student is admitted.

 

Concurrent Applicant

Students in the United States on F-1 visas who would like to take classes at Seattle Colleges but stay on their current school's I-20 form can apply as concurrent applicants.

 

1. Concurrent Student Application

Complete the application for the campus you would like to attend: North | Central | South.

2. $50 Application Fee

The $50 application fee must be paid before an application can be processed. Payment instructions will be provided after you submit the other items to our Admissions Office.

3. Copy of Passport Photo Page

Concurrent applicants must provide a copy of their passport's photo page. The entire photo page must be visible (no portion can be obstructed, including the bottom strip), and the image must be of good quality (no glare or reflections).

4. Copy of I-20 Form

You must provide a copy of the I-20 form from your current school (all 3 pages).

5. Proof of English Proficiency (Optional)

Proof of English proficiency is not required for admission to Seattle Colleges. However, if you want to skip the English placement test, you can provide some proof of English proficiency in advance.

 

Concurrent applicants are not required to provide proof of finances.
