eLearning
Seattle Colleges offers different types of eLearning classes, including:
- Self-Paced
Self-paced courses are conducted using Canvas, an online learning platform. The coursework is self-paced and you may begin almost any time. Furthermore, you have two quarters (180 days) to complete the course, and there are no required on-campus meetings. These courses are ideal for students who want an accelerated learning pace or who have an irregular schedule.
- Seminar
Seminar courses enable students to gain new knowledge and skills while earning degree credits in the evenings and on Saturdays. Students meet with the instructor two hours every other week for lecture and discussions in a seminar setting. Between seminars, students work independently following a detailed study guide that covers self-study exercises.
- Telecourse
Telecourses use instructional videos you can view at your convenience that align with assignments arranged using Canvas, an online learning platform. Videos are either streamed online or provided via DVDs that you pick up and return to the eLearning Office. These courses require students to start and end within the quarterly timeframe.
- Fully Online
Online courses align with the quarterly schedule and are completed using Canvas, an online learning platform. These courses are instructor-led and may require students to read, submit assignments, participate in discussions, conduct group projects, and take quizzes/tests by given deadlines.
- Hybrid
Hybrid online courses provide students with the scheduling flexibility of fewer campus visits while covering the same materials as an equivalent class held entirely on campus. Hybrid online classes usually have at least one on-campus meeting per week combined with a "virtual classroom" website incorporating regular communications with the instructor and other students (through a bulletin board discussion), online content and lessons, and interactive web-based activities. These courses often use on-campus exams as assessment tools.
Many of Seattle Colleges' eLearning classes do not require any in-person attendance in Seattle, which allows students to pursue their educational program from the comfort of their own home — without the need for a student visa. Additionally, international students attending in-person classes in Seattle can take one eLearning class each quarter for college credit and apply it to their degree or certificate.
